now you see me now you don't
Just a little update:
work is pretty much eating my soul right now so my posting might be a bit scattered but there are things coming up that I'm excited to share. I'll still continue to post my Moleskine sketches every Thursday.

The use of Orange
My flickr set from the Boston trip is here.
The trip was fun but hardly relaxing. I was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding which kept me busy but Boston and especially Portsmouth were amazing.
On our last day in Portsmouth I happened upon a great little shop called Nahcotta which had a great selection of contemporary home and gift stuff. The shop also hosts art shows and was currently featuring "The Enormous Tiny Art Show 2" with some amazing art. I was completely struck by a series of work by Stacey Durand and now I don't know if I'll ever sleep properly again.
It just kills me when people can really use orange.

getting underneath
This is the underpainting stage for a new painting I'm working on.
I've heard other artists say that they often like their underpainting more than the idea they orginally sought out to create and I can definitely relate. I think someday I'd like to do a series of paintings that are just "underpaintings" as far as I'm concerned. It would be a good exercise for me in terms of loosening up a bit and experimenting. But I really gotta see this one through to the end. I'm excited about it.
I haven't started a new large oil painging like this in about a year and I'm really trying to change that this year now that I have a better workspace.
All next week I'll be in Boston for a friend's wedding but I'll return next week with trip pix and Moleskine Thursday.
I'll miss you, internet!

Gallery Openings are the new Black
Apparently I really needed a gallery fix this weekend so I went out and got me some:
My first stop was the new Seth Carmichael gallery. I will be participating in a group show here on Sept. 15 so I was eager to check out the space. Cool gallery and they are shooting LA Ink at the tattoo parlor next store:
Oddzoo, Karen Preston, and Matthew Feyld.
Thinkspace Gallery:
Kris Lewis
Dan-ah Kim
(etsy shop here)
Gallery Revisited:
Ashley Goldberg
(etsy shop here)
and Michael Hsiung
Ashley
Michael
This wee show kind of rocked my world.

letter boxing
an excuse: I didn't post earlier in the week because there was nothing interesting to say. I didn't make it to any shows last weekend. I went to a wedding and a funeral and finished work on some new designs for Blood is the new Black.
I'm scared to post about my plans to go to this show on Sat. because whenever I talk about going to a show that I've really been looking foward to the plague hits or something and I can't make it. But regardless, I really love the work of Ashley Goldberg and Michael Hsiung and I want to pick up this print that I ordered:
Here are my slightly early moleskine Thursday drawings. Very loose and sketchy and weird. It's fun.
