cleaning out pipes
I'm trying to catch up with myself today as I actually have a few minutes this morning. I haven't gotten a chance to post about some of the shows I went to this past weekend. There were so many that I missed. Sad.
Thinkspace "Snow Angel's" show was on Friday.
One of my favorite pieces from the show by Jeaneed Carlino. Her work really floored me.
Upstairs some cool paintings by Jesse Hotchkiss
Stopping by the Von Dutch store to see a toy and art show that was curated by the Carmichael on Sat. night.
And Brandi Milne at the Corey Helford Gallery later on Sat.
really beautiful work.
As usual there are lots more pics from the shows at my flickr and check out the gallery sites for more info on the shows and the artists.

a tattoo story
I'm incorporating my usual moleskine post into a post about a tattoo design I did for a couple friends:
moleskine puzzle piece doodles
final design
final tattoos!!
They got the work done in Portland,OR and the tattoo artist Joseph Bass did a fabulous job staying true to the design. He even blogged about it here.

rockets in weird places
A friend recently asked me when I was going to move on from drawing hands. I think I thought I was over it but sure enough they keep creeping back into my ideas and my work.
When my mom was a kid she got a hold of my grandfather's gun and accidently shot herself in the hand. The bullet went clean through her hand and into my grandmother's back. Everyone was ok.

who says anything anymore
So I'm just going to apologize right now that I don't have names and links to go with all the artists whose work appears in these photos. There was just SOO much work by so many talented people and it was insanely crowded at all the shows. LA really came out this weekend to show support for art.
(please click on image for a larger view)
Johnny Ryan's Horror Show at the Secret Headquarters on Fri. night.
Project Gallery Wishful Thinking show
Painting by Evan B. Harris and work by Thylacine Graphics and Jen Lobo at Lab 101 Gallery (closing their doors soon how sad).
Hive Gallery
And finally, the last images are from the show at the Seth Carmichael Gallery that I took part in. Most of the work is from previous shows but I did a couple broken hand mirror paintings:
Excited to be sharing a wall with talented aritsts like Karen Preston (the pieces that are right next to the mirrors and slightly below)
close up of mirrors:
"Pelvic Bait" sharing a wall with Denise Simon
Sorry again for not having more artist info but please check out the websites of the galleries for more info and feel free to comment with additional info!

I'm "It"
I've never been tagged before! Thanks Ramis!
I love finding new blogs this way. OK here goes:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
*5 facts about me
1. I was married and divorced before the age of 24.
2. I was born with one under-developed ear (I think the condition is called Congenital Atresia) so I'm partially def in my left ear. When I'm sitting next to someone or walk down the street with someone I position myself to be on their left so I can hear.
3. I have a lot of anxiety about...well... everything but especially hospitals, getting blood drawn and the apocolypse.
4. When I was a kid I used to have dreams about flying around my room at night and I could see myself sleeping. Now I wonder if I had some kind of out of body experience.
5. I'm itching to take a rode trip/camping trip up the Western Coast to Oregon and Washington.
I am tagging
Van Slanty Pants (Jessica)
Sophan
Lilly Piri
Denise Simon
Hawkeye (Jason Dunn)
I hope people don't mind being tagged. It's totally voluntary. There's no "no sex for 10 years" or "bad luck for the rest of the day" if you don't want to participate.

Dethroning
Coming down from the show. All issues aside I think it went quite well and I can't give enough thanks to everyone who came out to support Sara and I!
yes we did. we totally took a picture in front of it.
As I said, I feel like I'm coming down from it now which is bad because really there is so much in my head that I have to make and there's no time for life.
Please click on the above images for larger views and see a couple more pics from the show at flickr. When I get ahold of more pictures from the show I will post.

he she me we you too come
This week for Moleskine Thursday I'm doing something a little different:
(click on image for full view)
Although this is my Moleskine sketchbook this isn't my sketch. It's the efforts of the extremely talented (and pretty to boot!) Sara Brum (aka Mrs. Massee) gettin busy in the Moleskine.
At the moment Sara doesn't have a website up so you NEED to be making your way over to the Seth Carmichael Gallery this Saturday evening to see the mischief that we have been getting ourselves into for this collaboration show. This Saturday, Nov. 17, 7pm-midnight!

teaser: There are LEDs involved!!!

gallery openings = safari
I really love the name of Natalia Fabia's show "Hooker Safari" (at the Corey Helford Gallery). I kinda want to just go around saying it all day pronouncing it "hoo-kah sa-fah-reh!"
(Natalia taking pictures with safari friends)
(some of her paintings made into jewelry)
Hookers, glitter and free drinks. That's what I call a safari.
Meanwhile across the street at Project Gallery:
Nate Frizzell's installation
Eric Otto's installation.
I didn't get a good photo of Scott Belcastro's work but all the installation work was cool.

thinking about somehting else
I don't usually post about this kind of stuff but...
Everyone who lives or knows someone living in LA or San Diego is buzzing about the recent fires. I've been especially sympathetic to the people affected by this tragedy as almost exactly 2 years ago in the middle of the night I woke to a fire that burnt down my apt and took my kitty. Though I lost a lot I was able to get back on my feet pretty quickly due to the generosity of friends, family and even strangers. Thus, I've been looking for a ways that I can help the people who need it right now. So far the best resource I have found has been via the LA Times on their "How to Help" page but I'm sure as things calm down more resources will pop up. If you know of any organizations please comment with the info.

Do I need a reason again?
La Brea on a Sat. night:
From the Camille Rose Garcia show at the MK Gallery.
It just appeals to me. That's all.
The work of sweet Denise Simon. I have a print of this little guy and I love it so much. I totally have a thing for hummingbirds in the cheesiest most cliche way. I'll post a picture of my print at some point but in the meantime if you'd like to pick up your own visit Denise's Etsy shop.
Yuki Miyazaki! I love it.
*post edit: The last 2 are from the Delerium Tremens show at the Carmichael Gallery
